How to recover user's mailbox deleted from  Active Directory

Hi,

One of  my team member accidently deleted a user from Active directory. Now his mailbox is also deleted. Is there any chance to recover his mailbox if we create a new user for that user?

Thanks

In the Exchange Admin Console, check for "Disconnected Mailboxes" under "Recipients/Mailboxes" and click on the dots "...." to bring up the menu and then go to "Connect a mailbox".

In previous Exchange versions, the database maintenance job needed to be run in order for recently deleted accounts to show up in Disconnected Mailboxes.

Cory gave you great info, however if you have issues resolving that another method would be to use a 3rd party solution like our DigiScope product

If you have deleted the user, you need to restore it if you have AD recycle bin enabled.

If not, try restoring it from backup (if you have the product that can do that) or do an authoritative AD restore. You can also create a new user and attach the disconnected mailbox to that, but all access controls and group memberships will have to be done again.

Please check this well described informative article that covers all the necessary steps in order to recover mailbox after delete Active Directory user : http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/1388-recover-mailbox-after-delete-active-directory-user

If the issue still persist, you may try using Lepide Exchange recovery manager that could be an appropriate solution in such weird circumstance.

Hi,

If you delete a mailbox, it is disconnected for a default period of 30 days.

So we can reconnect it during that time. Please take the following steps:

In the EAC, navigate to Recipients  > Mailboxes.

Click More More Options Icon, and then click Connect a mailbox.

Click the deleted mailbox that you want to connect a user to, and then click Connect.

In the window that asks if youre sure that you want to reconnect the mailbox, click Yes.

Click the user that you want to connect the deleted mailbox to, and then click OK.

For detailed information about restore mailbox, please refer to :

Hi All,

Thanks for your suggestions, I recovered user from AD but Exchange disconnected mailbox was not shown before 24 hours. Is there a way to see disconnected mailboxes in exchange immediately?

Thanks

Hi

To display mailboxes that are disconnected use the following command.

Get-MailboxStatistics -Server <server> | where { $_.DisconnectDate -ne $null } | select DisplayName,DisconnectDate

Please replace <server> with the name of your mailbox server.

This gives a list of the disconnected mailboxes.

Regards,

David

You either have to wait until the database maintenance is run overnight or you can run "Update-StoreMailboxState" in powershell.

Check out this article.  I think Example 3 is what you are looking for.  This will force the mailbox state to update and show the disconnected mailboxes.
